A Message from EARTHWALKER

I had to share this with you. I warn you, it isn't pleasant but if you are serious about being informed on health and our environment, this is something you should see. The video comes from one of our Environmental Booty members, Paul Coleman.

Paul is a really special person who, since 1990, has walked over 47,500 miles through over 39 nations spreading the word of taking care of our environment. In 2000, he began a mission to plant 100,000,000 trees; one for every man, woman and child killed in the last century of war. So far 11,350,000 have been planted. For more information on this special environmentalist, please visit his site at www.earthwalker.com .

The following is a personal message from Paul ...

"I tried to get this video onto the mainstream TV networks, but had no luck. I have shown it along with others on my talks around the world and people are quite rightly shocked and I advise them that this is exactly the reason why we need to buy locally and grow organic and treat all creatures with respect. I also advice them not to buy from China, because when we do buy from China without thinking this encourages what we see here. If people are informed then they can make the right choices.

But now I think that this really needs to hit the media waves and the networks. While checking out Pig Flu I stumbled upon a TV News video, made while we were actually walking around China, just a few weeks before we came across the pigs.It tells of a PIG FLU outbreak in China. We knew nothing of this - just as we did not know of the riots in Tibet for six weeks - because the government obviously blocked the information from Chinese eyes.

We [Paul and his wife are a great team] always wondered what did those pigs in the stream die of? Now we feel we know the answer and that is quite a scary thought.

Here is the news video from November 2007 - a few weeks before we saw the dead baby pigs. This entire region is for PIG farming and we have no doubt whatsoever that many more streams carried the same shock.

If you can help us spread the message via these two videos that would be a great help. We might not be able to stop what is happening in Mexico and now elsewhere, but we may be able to shed light on a very sad and potentially dangerous situation.

I have a friend who is an MP in the British Parliament who is trying to figure out a way to raise the issue and tomorrow will meet and discuss this with our friend who is a Japanese Senator .

Thanks for your offer of help. Let`s see what we can do."

Carbon Offset Programs in the US

We have just added an additional three US based carbon credit projects to our Environmental Booty Carbon Offset portfolio.

Green Lights New Orleans

Location:New Orleans, USA Type:Community Project

The goal of the Green Lights New Orleans project is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout the city by replacing 3 million light bulbs with more efficient, low energy light bulbs, thus avoiding 18,000 million tonnes of emissions over the lifetime of the program – this roughly equates to taking 120,000 cars off the road for a whole year. Low energy bulbs use 75% less energy than regular light bulbs. By replacing all the bulbs in a house (around 30 bulbs on average) over $650 can be saved over the lifetime of the new bulbs for some of the city’s most impoverished inhabitants. For more details click here.

Greenville County Methane Capture

Location:South Carolina, USA Type:Methane Capture

This project is a landfill gas collection and utilization project located at the Enoree landfill in Greer, South Carolina, USA. It will initially flare the landfill gas, but it will ultimately use the gas to generate renewable electricity. The objective of the project is to install an active gas collection and utilization system that will convert the methane content of the landfill gases, thereby reducing its global warming impact. For more details click here.

Intrepid Dairy Farm Methane Capture

Location:Southern Idaho, USA Type:Methane Capture

The Whitesides and Westpoint dairy farms, located in southern Idaho, USA, are changing their method of processing manure to a system using anaerobic digestion. Anaerobic digestion technology will help reduce the release of methane into the atmosphere and aid in mitigating climate change. The new biogas digesters installed at both dairies will now capture and destroy methane gas produced from the waste of over 12,000 dairy cows. For more details click here.

Eco-friendly Alternatives to Asbestos...Better For Your Health

The rapid progression of technology and green sustainable methods has given rise to environmental efficiency. These products not only save you money, but they are better for your health as well!
Several areas of the United States are quickly altering their construction regulations to suit the environment and the health of human beings. The implementation of eco-friendly construction, alternative energy solutions and energy reduction solutions has continued to play a vital role in the conversion to a healthier and sustainable world.
Green sustainable technologies are being pushed for utilization in the public and private sectors by many cities and states in the U.S. Everyone strives for clean air to breathe and clean water to drink. Unfortunately, many modern conveniences boost pollution and health problems.

Asbestos, a naturally-occurring mineral, was used in the 20th century as insulation, piping, brake lining and flooring. Its resistance to fire and heat made asbestos quite popular. Asbestos insulation was used in millions of homes and, while it is safe when enclosed or in good condition, deteriorated asbestos can cause a number of health problems, such as asbestosis or mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma is an aggressive form of asbestos cancer that accounts for three percent of cancer diagnoses in the United States. Current research indicates it can take up to 50 years for this illness to develop. Because of this, the cancer is usually diagnosed in its late stages and treatment has varied effects on victims. Also, due to the fact many mesothelioma symptoms are similar to less serious ailments, diagnosing this type of cancer is often difficult.

Many homes, buildings and public facilities constructed before 1980 may still contain asbestos and other unsafe materials. In many cases, the best action is no action at all. Disturbing asbestos in good condition may cause its fibers to be released into the air.

An ECO-FRIENDLY WORLD

The U.S. Green Building Council conducted a study which estimated a new savings of $50-$65 per square foot for positively constructed green buildings. As education and technology of green sustainable practices increase, the numbers will continue to rise.

Recently, congress passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act into law. Included in this act were extensions to the tax incentives placed for energy efficiency in 2005, as well as new credits for homeowners who remodel or build using eco-sustainable methods. Existing homes are eligible for a series of efficiency measures that pertain to the home shell (Insulation, Windows, Sealing) worth 30% of the installed cost (materials only, labor is not included in the credit basis).
Implementing green methods of building can have positive environmental, health and economic benefits. These include:
  • Conservation of natural resources
  • Enhance air quality and protect ecosystems
  • Energy sustainability
  • Increase property value
  • Improve quality of life
  • Improvement of pulmonary and cardiac health
  • Reduce waste

Green alternatives to asbestos include the use of lcynene foam, cotton fiber and cellulose. Cotton fiber is made from recycled batted material and treated to be fireproof. A water based spray polyurethane foam, lcynene features no toxic components.
