Heinz Says NO to High Fructose Corn Syrup with Their Simply Heinz Ketchup...NOT! Why Hunt's is the Real Deal

Web Image
I was really happy when a friend of mine recently told me about how Heinz was taking HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup) out of their ketchup.  It made me feel like we were really making progress toward a helping the everyday consumer live a healthier life.  So many people do not have the information about HFCS and it's ill health effects (check out The Double Dangers of HFCS) and I thought it was going to be one of the first food manufacturer to totally eliminate HFCS and help people live healthier.  I was so happy that fast food restaurants would now have healthy little packets of ketchup for all to use.  Well after calling Heinz, I really got my bubble burst.

Sure I Buy Green...but Only When People Are Watching and Um...am I Supposed to Green Myself?

"Even in this recession, four out of five consumers actively target “green” products, even if they are more expensive. Exactly why they care is still open to debate—a recent study at the University of Minnesota showed that people are more likely to buy Eco-conscious goods in public rather than online, suggesting that buying green may be a way of exerting status."

When I read this little blurb in an article recently it was one of those things that made me go hmmm.   Can it really be true that people only make green consumer choices so they can brag to their friends about how much they "care" about our environment?

Turn Your Hair "Green" - Win Shiva ShapeIt Eco-friendly, Organic Hairspray!

Hi all!  I must apologize for not posting more frequently lately but I have been totally bogged down with  being a mommy...and thoroughly enjoying it.  The end of school for each of my three girls means plays, performances and a mega dose of volunteering.  My take on living green is that it not only means making Eco-conscious consumer choices, it also means doing all we can to "treasure self, people and planet".

@KatieCouric - Is US Energy Policy To Blame For BP Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill?

Clean energy advocate Mike Tidwell says the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is directly related to America's addiction to oil.  This is the same man who says we should all stop going green and force the government to change their energy policies.  He is a strong advocate of government Climate Change policies.  I am a strong advocate of personal responsibility and get a little nervous about government mandates.  You?

Current Lot Numbers for McNeil Consumer Healthcare's Motrin, Tylenol, Zyrtec and Benadryl Adult, Infant and Children's Medication Recall

10-10 Update: NEW RECALL ANNOUNCED
7-8-2010 UPDATE:  ADDITIONAL RECALLS ANNOUNCED

Oh I bet it is fun over at McNeil Consumer Healthcare about now. I cannot imagine the tension, depression and worry over their current recall of children and infant's Motrin, Tylenol, Zyrtec and Benadryl. Supposedly the medications are voluntarily being recalled because they do not meet McNeil's quality standards and not because of any worry over adverse reactions. I say that sounds like a lot of trouble and lost profit over a little quality control issue. I certainly would follow their advice and not give any of the following products to my kids that I had in my home.

Monday's Musings - Wishing I was a Lesbian Like Ellen, Why I Love Halo, The USPS and Stamps to the Rescue

I used to love Ellen Degeneres until she married Portia DeRossi.  Listen, I am no lesbian but Portia makes me wish I was one.  Now my in box is making my jealousy of Ellen worse.  I just got an email from the USPS (how do these folks get my email?)  which explains that Ms. DeGeneres is doing more great things than just Ms. DeRossi.
