Are Conservatives Liberal on Wind and Solar Energy?

Conservatives,  let's talk about energy. And why so many conservatives are so wrong -- so liberal, even -- on wind and solar energy.

Energy-efficient Lightbulbs...How Much Will You Save?

Guest Post by Alison Baenen for Environmental Booty Partner Green Goes Simple

Compact Fluorescent Lights, otherwise known as CFLs, have come a long way since they entered the lightbulb market a few years ago. Along with their light-emitting diode cohort (aka LEDs), they’ve become standard fare at home furnishing stores and can now be dimmed, diffused and clustered for maximum impact.

3 Easy Ways to Go Chemical Free and Help Save our Planet...Meet my Friend Stainless Steel

I ran across another study today that seems to confirm BPA's (Bisphenol-A) harmful effects on not only females but men as well.  This controversial chemical which is found in plastic food and beverage containers has been known to be a hormone disruptor in women since the 30's, yet the US has failed to ban BPA.  BPA is one of my most hated chemicals.
BUY BPA FREE STAINLESS INSTEAD
A 2010  report from the  FDA expressed concern over BPA's harmful affects to fetuses, infants and children.  BPA is one chemical that, with a little education, you can avoid in your food and drink containers.   Here's three easy ways you can work to go chemical free with your containers and save our planet at the same time.

How to Save Energy and Reduce Pollution? Green Your Commute

Guest Post By Dana Goeglein for Environmental Booty Partner Green Goes Simple

You don’t have to completely give up your car to prove how much you care about the environment. Simply changing the way you commute can radically reduce the amount of air pollution, greenhouse gases and carbon emissions you produce each day. And what’s more, alternative modes of transportation can benefit your health, save you money and even lead to new friendships (hello, carpool buddies!).

How Publix Supermarkets is Making a Trip to the Grocery Store a Lot Greener for your Little Munchkins

If you have kids, chances are you know the drill.  "Mommy can I have a cookie at the bakery? Please, please, please!!!"  I hate to buy cookies for my kids at the Publix bakery because they contain partially hydrogenated fats (which I am not a big fan of and try to limit) but they always get me to give in on the free cookie offered for kids at the bakery.  Well imagine my surprise when I walked over with them and saw this...

In addition to the choice of a free banana for a snack instead of a cookie, I also loved the section of pre-packaged, healthy lunch options for kids that Jay has placed in the front of the store!!

One of the first things shoppers see when they enter my local Publix Market is a display of Publix pre-packaged healthy lunch options for kids.  My amazing Publix and its #1 manager, Jay Thompson, is doing this and more to offer my community here in Orlando little ways to help our kids live greener, healthier lives.

My Latest Green Read...Farmer Jane - Women Changing the Way We Eat by Temra Costa

This summer I have had a huge reading list and this book really stands out among those I have read.  Not only do I love Temra Costa's book because of the 30 stories of inspiring women changing the way we eat, I also love it because it was a transformative read.  I asked Temra Costa why she wrote Farmer Jane and she said, "Because women's stories need to be told. Also, I wrote it to educate and inspire action and change in our food system."

Click above to meet the inspirational women of Farmer Jane

There are so many great tips on how a woman (or a man) can find easy ways to provide her family with healthy, whole, local and sustainable foods, that I came away from reading the book with a feeling that I can and should feed my family better foods through knowing my farmer, protecting my local farmer's way of life and supporting locally sourced food production.

Buy Organic Cookies at our Made in America Bake Sale and Help Give Back to the Families of our Country's Soldiers

We Need You to Shop our Made in America Bake Sale to Benefit our Youngest of Patriots!

I think some of our youngest in this country are paying a big price for having a parent in the military and they are doing it with love in their hearts.  Think about it.  How many Birthdays, basketball games and even births have been missed because of a parent serving overseas for us?  Maybe when we find ourselves thanking a Soldier for their service, we should thank their children for the sacrifices they have made too.

Our Soldiers protect us, believe in us and our America and although it must be heartbreaking, they leave their children (sometimes for months at a time) to do what they consider a privilege…to protect their fellow Americans and the symbols and beliefs of those who share them.

I do the Best I can to get my Kids to Love Healthy Foods and Drinks...but I can Only do so Much!

On vacation last week my hubby bought my 4 year old, Hayden-Jay, a cool Belly Washer drink in a neat bottle with Strawberry Shortcake on top and a Popsicle.  I was kind of mad at him because I just knew they both had a ton of bad things like artificial colors and sweeteners in them.  He is always giving them crap to eat and drink as he is not quite as careful about what they ingest as I am.  So when I checked the ingredients on the Belly Washer, I was surprised to find that it was 100% fruit juice and contained absolutely no artificial anything.  The Popsicle was another story as it was pure crap.  Now I don't mind my kids eating pure crap once in a while, I mean we were on vacation, but what really surprised me was my daughter's reaction to her treats...

Already in her little 4 year old mind, healthy equals yucky.  :(

OpenSky has Dogs Covered! Olive Green Dog Green Goods for Healthy Dogs in the Environmental Booty Shop on OpenSky

OpenSky has dogs, like my Chi-Poo Ace, covered!!! *
If you are anything like me, you love your pooch as much as you love your kids...okay maybe not THAT much, but pretty darn close right?  Before I had kids my puppies were my babies.

My two babies Sebastian (left) and Chelsa (right) and me 8 months pregnant with my first daughter, Reece, back in 1996.
I went through countless eye surgeries with them, one of them ate an entire bottle of penicillin and they totally chewed up our kitchen cabinets.  Together they were a menace.  See I told you dogs are like kids.  Makes me so sad to think about it, but both of them are over the Rainbow Bridge now.

You know we go through so much with our pooches and they really do feel like family members.  I know I always want to keep our newest family member, our Chi-Poo Ace, covered with safe and healthy pet supplies when it comes to his little puppy needs.  Well OpenSky has dogs covered with their partnership, with another one of my trusted green suppliers, in Olive Green Dog.

Olive is dedicated to bringing us healthy and environmentally friendly dog products that we can trust. Many of Olive's green goods are one of a kind—hip, modern and Eco-friendly dog supplies. Now our discerning pooches can support sustainability without sacrificing style.

So I have picked my top 4 picks from Olive Green Dog to share with you guys in my Environmental Booty OpenSky Shop and I bet you will want to share them with your favorite canine friend...

Healthy Things I'm Lovin' Today

I am loving tomato and mozzarella salad drizzled with Publix Tangy Balsamic Dressing and a cool glass of Ambassador Organic Tea!!  I am also loving that my daughter Reece has been making it for me...
She is a doll!
What I am not loving, though, is the fact that I just realized there is HFCS in the salad dressing we have been putting on the tomato and mozzarella salad from Publix!!  UUGGHH....

CALIFORNIA LAWMAKERS PREPARE TO VOTE ON FIRST STATEWIDE PLASTIC BAG BAN ...Should the Government be Able to Force this on Us?

100 BAG MONSTERS TAKE TO THE STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO ON THURSDAY AS CALIFORNIA LAWMAKERS PREPARE TO VOTE ON FIRST STATEWIDE PLASTIC BAG BAN...THEN IT'S ON TO YOUR STATE!  IS THIS RIGHT?
Rally to include 100 bag monsters and 10 major California-based organizations in support of the effort led by one bag monster-clad man
Folks even if you are not in the Bay area, please keep an eye out for info on this vote.  The hoopla surrounding this potential historic vote with the Bag Monsters is PR at it's best and citizen love for green at it most effective, but is it the place of the government to force this on consumers?  I know there are people who say that government involvement in telling people what they HAVE to do for the green effort is not the direction we need to go.  How do you feel?  Should the government be allowed to force us to use reusable bags or is that just something we should do on our own without government?  If it becomes law in California, it could become law in your state next.  Are you cool with that?  Leave a comment below or Tweet me @EnviroBooty and give me your 411!!

Harrison Ford...Still Sooo Sexy Just Like His Passion for Team Earth and His Hamilton Khaki Team Earth Collection

So I may be jaded as I have always liked older men,
My poor hubby is 10 years older than me but he just kept wanting to have babies so he is 52 with  a 4, 10 and 13 year old!!!

but I think Harrison Ford is still very sexy.  I knew he was into green as I remember he and Calsita Flockhart had an Eco-wedding but I had no idea he had an eye for green design.  In order to help promote his passion for Team Earth, Harrison has teamed up with a Swatch watch company called Hamilton.  Hamilton, a high end watch brand that has been around forever, and Harrison Ford have created some hot little watches to sell and give part of the proceeds to Team Earth

Dr. Fox-Penner
We are so lucky to have Dr. Peter Fox-Penner, who is an energy industry expert specializing in renewable energy, take the time to share this great info with us.  Like I always say, "Our future depends on our knowledge and actions." and Dr. Fox-Penner is helping us to create a brighter, greener future through sharing his knowledge.  Read it and pass on the knowledge.

To get the book,  Smart Power, please visit: www.smartpowerbook.com.
In his latest book, Smart Power, Dr. Fox-Penner provides an in-depth look at the policy and business challenges electric utilities face due to the combined impacts of climate change, the smart grid, and energy efficiency policies. Drawing upon his expertise as a utility consultant, Dr. Fox-Penner examines potential sustainable business models and reviews the current prospects for long-term power generation alternatives.

4 Green Energy Myths

For those paying close attention to environmental news, the “greening” of our utility industry has become a hot topic and an essential component of achieving our climate goals.  The development of electric vehicles, Smart Grid technologies, renewable resources, and low-carbon energy generation provide hope that we can refashion our utility infrastructure into a thriving “green” industry and recharge our weak economy while we’re at it.

Like Deals, Fashion, Living Green and Oprah? Meet My Friend Jessica from K.C. Malhan Designs

I have this Large Grecian bag and it is nice and big (9 x 6) and really sexy for a night out with all black or my nice pencil skirt, heels and blouse for church!

The first time my teenage daughter Reece and I saw a K.C. Malhan bag we fell in love immediately with the intricate beading, vibrant colors and hot designs.  Although I loved the bags, I did not even think about offering them to my friends online in my Environmental Booty OpenSky Shop as I had no idea they were "green".  Then I met the designer, Jessica Singh and found out just how in line with my philosophy of treasuring self, people and planet her bags and company really are.  She is a doll and her bags are my favs...

Autism Speaks About Environmental Factors that May Increase the Risk for Autism Spectrum Disorders

We are all listening...one heart beats within us all.

I have a spot in my heart for families dealing with any of the disorders in the Autism  Spectrum.  My daughter, Reece, was in school (until a couple of years ago) with a very special boy.  This very special boy (young man now) is the son of a friend of mine and the twin of one of Reece's girl friends. I watched my daughter all year in Kindergarten sit beside him and fall in love with his heart and his passion for portraying his message to all of us.  My friend told me the story one day of how one vibrant little "baby" boy left and was replaced with a very different son in a matter of days.  One day my friend's son was smiling and waving into the video camera and a few days later (after the MMR vaccine) he was almost totally unresponsive and changed into someone new.

Oh Lord as If I Do Not Have Enough to Worry About...CNN Reports Florida Confirms 24 Cases of Dengue Fever

So like I do not have enough to worry about with the oil spill, kids being abducted, medicines causing brain damage, mean girls, technology in kid's hands, artificial sweeteners, HFCS, partially hydrogenated fats and so on...now I have to worry about a Dengue fever outbreak.  When I first heard about this on Twitter from a friend I have known for a while and trust...

I wondered where she got the info.
