My Fabulous and Funny Green Christmas

Hope you are enjoying your Christmas Eve as much as we are.

You may have noticed that I stayed away from posting articles like "How to Green Your Christmas" and "3 Easy Steps to a Greener Christmas" this Holiday Season.  I saw an early Christmas Season article about how awful it is that people put up Christmas lights.  You know with how much electricity it uses and all.  Seriously?  After I read that and a few more greening your Christmas posts from some of my fellow bloggers, I felt like they had that portion of the Holiday Season covered.  This year I vowed to make the experience of the season as fabulous as its meaning and fill it with so much fun that my kids hearts were filled and overflowing.  I think I succeeded and they haven't opened one gift.

Consumers, Show Your Power! How You Can Fight the Pesticide Industry in Just 2 Minutes and Help Create a Healthier Future for Us All

Click the picture above and take just 2 minutes to show your power and send a letter to your local newspaper demanding that California reverse its decision on methyl iodide

As you may have heard by now, California’s Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) approved the carcinogenic new pesticide, methyl iodide, for use in the state’s strawberry fields. The decision flies in the face of unprecedented public and scientific opposition, and is a clear instance of corporate influence overriding science and the public interest.  Here at Environmental Booty, we consider that the worst kind of disregard for human and environmental health.  PAN North America (Pesticide Action Network)  is working hard to push the state to reverse this harmful decision and they need our help.

How Chinese Martial Artist and International Film Star Jet Li Teaches His Children a Green Living Lesson

If you are looking for a great, educational and fun gift for children ages 4-8, the Hop-A-Long series is a great find!

I got a message from one of my Environmental Booty suppliers the other day and I thought it was so cool I had to share.  Apparently their Hop-A-Long Series, one of my favorite green finds for kids aged 4-8,  is a hit with Chinese Martial Artist, International Film Star and father Jet Li...

"My family had so much fun watching the Hop-A-Long's Schoolhouse DVD.  The humorous-but-informative format is an excellent way of imparting lessons and life values that children of this age need to be aware of. This is a valuable tool in helping form this generation's "little heroes".  To Hop-A-Long Productions-I salute you for this wonderful production".

BeeKey Leaks...Leaked EPA Memo Says Bayer Research Flawed. EPA Knowingly Allows Use of Bee Killing Pesticide Clothianidin

I am not sure where the mainstream media has been on this story.  Obviously Wiki Leaks is a hot topic along with the economy and the devaluation of our US Dollar and...well you get the point.  Still, one would think that the fact that the EPA, by allowing Bayer to sell a toxic pesticide called clothianidin, is jeopardizing a third of American agriculture would be newsworthy.  From what I can tell from looking at public documents, as far back as far back as 2003 the EPA knew the safety of Bayer's clothianidin to bees was based on extremely flawed data and requested further study.  Clothianidin has already been banned by Germany, France, Italy, and Slovenia for its toxic effects.

Glenn Beck on Michelle Obama's Statement that "We Can't Just Leave it up to the Parents" to Keep Our Kids Healthy. Is Michelle Obama, in Taking on Such a Good Hearted Mission, Taking Her Trip Too Far?

So many folks determine, without asking me, that I am a liberal.  Although I am a registered Democrat, I haven't voted that way in over a decade.  I have considered changing my voting status to Republican but I don't feel comfortable classifying myself in that way either.  I am in a sort of political limbo.  I am searching for more than a No Labels label to move forward you know?

For the last five years or so I have been listening to my McDreamy...Glenn Beck.  What can I say, I am very cerebral and I also happen to think he is a doll.  His wife is a lucky woman.   I have been thankful for his  coverage and commentary on the New Millenia Patriots who have followed their hearts and worked with their minds to bring us the Tea Party Movement.   Looking for comfort and guidance in the hilarious (if we don't laugh we will cry) but poignant foresight of Glenn Beck somehow makes me feel like I actually do have a place in politics today.

U.S. Marines First to Go Green with Addition of Smith Newton, Electric Trucks at Camp Pendleton

Marines Become First Military Organization to Purchase All-Electric Commercial Truck
The United States Marine Corps are the first to go green in the military with the purchase of two all-electric Smith Newton trucks.  Although all branches of our Armed Forces are working to go green, the Marines are the first military organization to order Smith Newtons off of the Government Services Administration (GSA) schedule. The trucks will be delivered to Camp Pendleton, California; the Corps’ largest West Coast training facility, and home of the First Marine Expeditionary Force.

A Message on the Down Side of Food Additives Like TBHQ from Jane Hersey, Director of the US Feingold Association

THANK YOU for letting people know the down side of food additives!

For more than 30 years the non-profit Feingold Association of the US (www.feingold.org)  has helped people find food that is free of what we consider to be the worst of the synthetic additives (food dyes, artificial flavors and 3 preservatives, including TBHQ).  We have long heard about how "a little bit doesn't hurt" but our sensitive members know otherwise!  TBHQ (and its cousins BHA and BHT) are made from petroleum, and because they are so potent, it only takes a tiny amount of them to do their job....keep food appearing to be fresh, even when it isn't....and to allow restaurant chains to keep frying oil at high temperatures for hours on end, and to use the same oil over and over.

Are Wendy's New Natural Cut Fries Worth Their Weight in Sea Salt?

Are Wendy's new, natural cut fries worth their weight in sea salt?  Well there certainly has been quite a bit of talk on the web and in the mommy circles the last few weeks about the new, natural cut fries.  Still, Wendy's new, sea salted fries have gotten a lot of bad press, and word of mouth, as consumers either do not like the natural cut fries or think Wendy's is doing a little greenwashing.

Red Hot Gisele Bündchen and Her New AOL Kid's Green Team

Real Life Red Hot and a Totally Green Caricature
We all know Gisele Bündchen  is red hot but you may not know just how green she is.  For years she has been donating proceeds from the sale of her flip flops to various environmental causes and after a trip in 2004 to the Amazon she knew she had to do something.  It was after the trip to the Amazon that she found a deep respect for how the people treated their environment. After seeing how many children were getting sick from pesticide use and seeing the deforestation which was occurring, she decided to take action.

The world's third-largest phone-maker in terms of unit sales after Nokia and Samsung, according to IDC, has already removed lead, cadmium, nickel, halogen substances and other EU RoHS materials from its production of mobile phones. Standby power has also been reduced in portable chargers and a reminder feature lets users know when the handset is fully charged.

Breaking News! FDA to Hold Hearings in March on the Safety of Food Dyes and Our Kids! Europe Far Ahead of U.S. in Protecting Consumers and Their Kids

Breaking News!  The FDA Will Hold Hearings in March on the Safety of Food Dyes and Our Kids!  Europe Far Ahead of U.S. in Protecting Consumers and Their Kids

Europe has moved much more quickly to protect children from artificial dyes.
Living a greener lifestyle can be tough huh?  We expect the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) to protect us from harmful ingredients in our food; especially when it comes to feeding our kids right?  Well I found out the hard way that, in the past, the FDA has seemingly been on the side of big business when it comes to making decisions on what is and isn't allowed in our food supply.  When I ingested too much Crystal Light, which contained the artificial sweetener Aspartame, I was told that I had MS.  At the urging of a friend, who I thought was totally off base, I stopped consuming the Crystal Light.  After just 3 days, my symptoms were almost completely gone.
