Wake Up Your Inner Goddess, Try This Easy Vegan Garlic Goddess Dressing

Are You a Vegan Goddess?  Try This Easy Vegan Garlic Goddess Dressing

I like easy and I like to eat. I mean who doesn't right? But I'm just not so great in the kitchen. I have plenty of other talents but cooking just isn't one of them. I have found some tricks though that really help to hide my lack of.culinary prowess. One io those tricks is a line of hand-crafted, artisanal, organic, gourmet garlic products called Garlic Gold.

Back in the day, I used to have to order all of my Garlic Gold products online (http://garlic gold.com) but now you can pretty much find them everywhere. All of the products are organic and there are so many different products to choose from, all with a flavorful garlic base, that you can make even the simplest foods taste like your a goddess in the kitchen.

I love the Garlic Gold original oil and nuggets but I also really love their Herbs de Provence and Southwest Nuggets. I put it on chicken, fish, veggies, eggs, dips...like really everything!  Even my picky Lexie and Hayden-Jay like it. I cannot say enough great things about Garlic Gold. Obviously I'm a fan of a product that makes my life easier and yummiest...is that a word?

Anyway, this Vegan Garlic Goddess Dressing is super easy to make and it's perfect tossed with some crisp organic romaine for a beautifully simple and delicious side, drizzled on a pita, or as a veggie dip.

Enjoy and let me know how you like it!

See the Channel 6 Click Orlando extended interview I did with Consumer Reporter Eryka Washington below

Here's What YOU Need to Know to Protect Yourself and Your Family from Cancer Causing Suds

Last week I was honored to go to Washington DC with Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families along with over 200 other concerned moms, dads, business owners, doctors, nurses, and consumers to demand outdated chemicals laws be replaced with true protection for consumers.  If you missed the story, you can play catch up here.

The 4 Keys to a Healthy Life

4 Keys to a Healthy Life

What? Did you think it was going to be something you have never heard before? It is soooo simple I am constantly in awe of why folks do not just do it.
  1. Drink water - ditch almost every other drink out there and most certainly doth the high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) which is linked to heart disease and is a genetically modified (GMO) food. See more about GMO's HERE!

Ob-Gyns Join in the Fight for Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families

Ob-Gyns Publicly Advocate for Policy Changes to Protect Women from Environmental Chemicals that Harm Reproductive Health

This news came across my inbox Monday and was embargoed until Tuesday and I totally forgot to share. Oops. :( Kind of big news and news that actually surprised but encouraged me in my fight for Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families. In fact, I am going back to DC at the end of October to lobby for safer chemicals and will be joining with 200 concerned citizens to demand action on the chemicals that are in consumer goods today. The fact that The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (The College) is with us only serves to strengthen our cause.

How To Be Green and Sustainably Clean?

How To Be Green? Surf Over and Buy Yourself a Couple of My Favorite Eco-Friendly Consumer Find...

I'm no fan of infomercials, or TV for that matter, but I have in fact seen the below clip for Green Glider Mop Pads on TV and pretty much flipped right past with only a hint of regret. Lucky for me, my girl Adryenn Ashley knows I am a greenie and had her friend Tanya Lewis, the inventor of the Green Glider Mop Pad, send me some samples of what has become my new favorite green consumer find.

Is Buying Organic Food Worth It or Not?

So Seriously, Is Organic Worth It or Not?

I get asked all the time whether it is "worth it or not" to go organic and I always like to reply to the question in three simple and easy to understand answers.
  1. A National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIH) study posted in Environmental Health Perspectives back in 2006, demonstrated that when scientists substituted children’s conventional diets with organic food items for 5 consecutive days, the median urinary concentrations of pesticides decreased to the non-detect levels immediately after the introduction of organic diets and remained non-detectable until the conventional diets were reintroduced.
  2. Once when I was in a rush and did not have time to run into the market for organic milk, I picked up non-organic at CVS. I poured a glass for my youngest daughter the next morning with only a pang of guilt which I quieted with the meme that she would not even notice the difference.  I was wrong. Before even fully swallowing the milk, she dropped the glass down onto the table with a grimace on her face and exclaimed, "What IS this?"  Clearly, there is a taste difference between organic and conventional in not only the milk and meat, but also in the fruits and vegetables.
  3. You don't have to worry about whether or not you can afford organics or where to buy them.  Shop like I do at Green PolkaDot Box  and save up to 60% on NonGMO, organic foods, drinks and more and make your life easy and stay on budget.  It's easy peasy, lemon squeezy.
So you tell me, is it worth it or not?

Ever Feel Like You Need a Brain Boost?

My 13 year old sent this to me yesterday and I thought it was the neatest thing ever.  I love to learn and sometimes there are days when I feel like my brain is turning to mush because of too little intellectual stimulation and too much reusable bag selling, kids and social media consulting.

Enjoy the next two minutes of mind blowing facts and be sure to give your brain a boost when you need it with some of my fav healthy food snacks like hummus and peppers or cucumbers, cashews and organic cranberries or organic string cheese and thinly sliced natural turkey breast.

5 Facts About Fluoride You Should Know

Do We Really Need Fluoride?

My kids have been fluoride free for over three years.  No fluoride in their toothpaste, no fluoride treatments at the dentist and since we are on well water, no fluoride in their water. And guess what?  Not one of my three daughters have had any cavities in the three years since they have been off of fluoride.

When I first started looking into fluoride, I thought the negative information I was uncovering was somehow untrue and was just fear mongering.  What I discovered was that the benefits were non existent and the detrimental affects of using fluoride, were enough to convince me that the best thing for my children was to remove fluoride from their lives.

5 Facts About Fluoride You NEED to Know

No matter which scientific studies you examine, the only rational conclusion you can come to is that fluoride's health dangers far outweigh the marginal dental benefits it might offer. The science is clear about the following:
  • Fluoride is a cumulative poison that has been proven to cause wide-ranging, serious health problems, such as damage to your bones, brain and endocrine system.
  • Fluoride exposure comes from tap water, most toothpaste and many antibiotics, including ones given to farm animals. There is a large variation in exposure levels, making it impossible to accurately predict these variables for any person, family or community.
  • Fluoride exposure for many can easily reach toxic levels. For example, poison control should be called if you swallow a quarter milligram of fluoride from toothpaste. Meanwhile just ONE glass of water can contain this amount of fluoride.  Does that make sense to you?
  • Fluoride is a toxic industrial waste product that is a poison to your body and is in no way a "nutrient," offering no benefits at all to the human body. The fluoride added to water supplies can be contaminated with lead, arsenic, radionucleotides, aluminum and other industrial contaminants. Additionally, the fluoride added to municipal water supplies is not pharmaceutical grade. Many municipalities are removing fluoride from their water supply for the safety of their constituents.
  • Dental caries can be prevented with means other than fluoridation, thereby avoiding the adverse effects of fluoride.
Another Reason We Need Safer Chemicals!
Wouldn't it be awesome to know that consumer products like toothpaste that are made in the USA are safe?  This illustrates just one more reason to get on board and support the Safe Chemicals Act.  Head over to the Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families website and join their mailing list to stay up to date on what YOU can do to help create a healthier tomorrow for not only your family, but all consumers as well.

How To Be Green? Take 5 for Healthy Families Day of Action and Stand with Kids, NOT Big Chemical!

Wondering What All of This Fuss Is Over Chemicals?
One of my daughter's friends asked her yesterday why I was so worried about chemicals.  My daughter's answer was priceless, "Because lot's of them are bad for us, that's why." she said.

Our children are being bathed in an abundance of neurologically harmful heavy metals like mercury and lead as well as being immersed in a life full of unsafe consumer products.  Today it is easy to see the alarming rise in illnesses linked to chemicals from childhood cancer, infertility, learning and developmental disabilities, birth defects, early puberty, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and certain types of cancer.

When Millennial babies are born, they already have over 200 industrial chemicals and pollutants in their umbilical cord blood.  Hard to believe but hard to ignore once you know what the fuss over chemical laws is all about.

How to Be Green? Stand in Spirit with Rachel Carson in Her Fight Against a Silent Spring

The Book-of-the-Month Club edition of Rachel Carson's Silent Spring
The Book-of-the-Month Club edition of Rachel Carson's Silent Spring
How Rachel Carson's Silent Spring Ignited the Fight for Safer Chemicals

September marked the 50th anniversary of Rachel Carson’s influential book, Silent Spring, which introduced the idea of a synergy between humans, our planet and our health.  Carson's Silent Spring told Americans the story of the harmful effects of the pesticide DDT in the environment and food chain and it was the start of where we find ourselves today in the fight for safer chemicals.  As Carson saw it, the federal government was part of the problem and they still are today - but we can do something to change that.

Live A Little - Food Glorious Food, Let's Make it Fun Again!

Food Shouldn't Be Laborious, It Should Be Glorious!
There seems to be a lot of talk these days about "clean" food and eating right.  Consumers are tired of chemicals being passed off as food.  We want real food that makes us feel good and keeps us healthy right??  BUT...it has to taste terrific and I think it should be fun!!  Making a meal shouldn't be all about what you HAVE to do for your family or how many calories you are counting.  Living a fabulous lifestyle includes eating foods that just simply make you feel satisfied and happy right?

Food Is Just One More Creative Way To Live Life to It's Fullest
I have never been a great cook.  I can bake up a storm - sometimes - but I never really knew what I was doing so I kind of stuck to the same old stuff.  These days, I have realized that cooking is fun.  I don't even need a recipe or a plan and I can bring my kids into it and have a lot of fun!

3 Ways to Make Food Fun Again
I remember when I was a kid, I loved food and enjoyed easting all of my favorite things.  As an adult, it can be easy to make food our enemy instead of the pleasurable necessity it should be.  I want you to get excited about food again and stop thinking of it as our enemy.
  1. Fix Your Favorite Foods from Childhood - Whether it was your mom's fabulous goulash or that amazing chocolate cake from the little shop that closed long ago, it is time to recreate and share those glorious and delicious memories with healthy organic ingredients
  2. Take One Day a Week or More to Just Enjoy Your Food and Eat What You Like - I take each weekend as my time to stop counting calories and just eat what I enjoy.  It is very satisfying and frankly fun to look forward to the weekends when I know my taste buds will be treated to almost anything they desire.
  3. Make Food Shopping a Joy not a Chore! - Part of making food fun again means dealing with the not so fun food shopping chore. I do most of my shopping online at the Green PolkaDot Box and it is inexpensive, guaranteed nonGMO (no genetically modified organisms) and I can do it at any time of day or night.  I love it so much I am a Founding Trust Member!  I have found tons of great (and yes healthy) finds I would never have had the time to uncover if I was shopping on a time crunch in a place like Whole Foods with my kids!
Enjoy what you like and share that good food feeling with your family.  Food should be fun and delicious.  Let's start enjoying it again. You with me??

Live a Little - Why Girls of All Ages Should Believe in Happy Ever After

Does Happily Ever After Exist?

When you were a little girl, did you dream about your happily ever after?  At this point in your life, have you given up on happily ever after?  Have you decided that Prince Charming, two kids and a castle is a figment of our imagination created only by dreams of a child and it is a waste of time?

What Was Your Happily Ever After?

Little girls hold dreams close to their hearts about their perfect happily ever after and unfortunately when they grow up, they have a hard time letting go of those childish dreams.  Life has a way of turning out differently than you may have thought doesn't it?  Or maybe, for those select few out there, their lives are as perfect as they seem from the outside looking in?

I think not.

I think everyone has dreams left unfulfilled, passions better left buried or a Prince Charming who never showed up at their front door.  Yet the full capacity to live one's dream of a happily ever after is all about acceptance and realization - accepting where your dreams are taking you today and realizing that no one lives the happily ever dreams created in the mind of a child.

Life is just not that perfect.

Where Are Your Dreams Taking You Today?

Part of living your life to its fullest is about letting go of a little girl's dream of the future, and holding firmly to the "dreams" of the present as the woman you have become.  Our little girl dreams have a place in the progression of our lives, but to truly feel alive, we must hold tight to the reality of the moment we are living in...with or without Prince Charming, two kids and a castle.

Happily Ever After is Now, Cherish and Thrive In It

The dreams of the woman you have become can define you and allow you to live more fully than you ever thought possible, but dreams cannot surpass the beauty of the gift we have been given for the happily ever after of now.

Never make the mistake of thinking that your little girl, happily ever after dreams of the future will surpass the fulfillment of now.  Do so and you run the risk of missing the unlimited possibilities of the life that is right in front of you - because happily ever after is now.

No matter where your happily ever after finds you today, accept that "now" is the fulfillment of all you have gone through to get to this moment and resolve to cherish it.  It is a shame to waste this one life you are living by doing anything other than thriving in the happily ever after of now.  Don't let it slip away.

Wordless Wednesday 9-12-12: Look What The Cat Dragged In

Wordless Wednesday is a day for me to share an image from my green living life with you along with just a few words...or so

Look what the cat dragged in?  I hardly have time for an injured squirrel escapade today but this little guy needs some help.  My cat brought him to me as a gift but I think he now has damage to his back legs as he cannot walk on them.  I gave him some sugar water and he is chipper and awake and sweet as honey so I will do all I can to do right by him.  And I was just saying to my mom not an hour ago how much I currently hate animals because the dog pooped all over our new rug and the cat peed on our daughter's bed this morning.  Is someone trying to tell me something?

P.S.- People always ask me where I get my organic food and personal care products and I love to tell them about The Green PolkaDot Box! You Want to Be Healthy? Start by Being Realistic

Sustainability Isn't Just for the Birds

I write about health all of the time on this blog because our health cannot be extracted from the "go green for the planet" conversation. How can we sustain our planet if we are all unhealthy? Our health and the health of our planet are inextricably connected.
"Our future depends on our knowledge and actions. What choices will you make today that will change your health and the health of our world tomorrow? Together we CAN find the path that will lead us to a greener, healthier future." - SSS
You Want to Be Healthy?  Start by Being Realistic

Maybe I am grumpy today or maybe I have just had it up to "here" with folks who want a magic pill or those who unrealistically blame everything and everyone, but themselves, for their unhealthy lifestyle and weight.  Or maybe, when I look around me, I am concerned at the size (and poor health) of 1/3 of my fellow Americans.
"More than one-third of U.S. adults (35.7%) are obese." - CDC
Being Fat Isn't About Beauty, It's About Health

I grew up in a family of obese people.  I knew from a very young age that I would do all I could to insure that I never became unhealthy because of my weight.  I understood that, even though I loved my family as the beautiful people they were, they had a hard time walking even short distances and it seemed that they never did anything but talk about their next meal instead of their next adventure.

Are You Ready to Really Live?

I am not here today to tell you that there is one way to a healthy future, life and body.  What I am here to tell you is to stop whinng, looking for that magic pill, or feeling like you will never get back to a size you feel good about becasue you totally flipping can!  If your future matters to you and if you want to really live your life to its fullest, get off of your ass and do something about it now.

As for me and my ass, I am going to do a workout even though I have had back surgery and can barely walk most mornings, I have three kids, I am 43, I don't have the time, I...well you get the point don't you?

P.S.- People always ask me where I get my organic food and personal care products and I love to tell them about The Green PolkaDot Box! Live a Little - 3 Tips to Focus In On Finding YOU Again

It's Time to Begin to Find Yourself Again...Starting Today!

If you have been wondering where YOU went after you got married, had kids and became someone else's wife, husband, dad or mom, today is the day to begin to find yourself again.

Here We Go...

Here are 3 tips to help you focus in on finding the passion in who you are meant to be to live your best life.
  1. Find One Physical Activity You Love and Do it Often - For me, working out is my salvation.  It is my time to do something for myself and it makes me feel great.  Physical activity releases endorphines and those feel good neurohormones work to keep you feeling positive and happy.  Find a physical activity that you love and set time aside do it often because it will help keep you fit and make you feel fabulous.
  2. Think About What You Used to Love to Do Before You Were Married with Kids, and Start Doing It Again- I realized a couple of months ago that I never read for pleasure anymore.  It made me sad because I used to love to read.  For the last 20 years, most of the books I have read have been about kids, marriage, social media and living green, but I rarely read anything for fun.  I changed that recently by reading the Shades of Grey Trilogy, which was interesting to say the least, and I am looking for my next fun read.  What do you miss that you used to do?
  3. Let Go of The Past, Revel in The Present and Get Excited About The Unknown of The Future - On some days, if I allowed myself to, I could let my mind wander through some of my past decisions and begin to feel like I am living the wrong life because of them.  Focusing on letting go of the past, living my best life today and feeling excited about the unknown of my future makes me feel most alive.  Forget about the things you cannot change, find joy in the now and get excited about what is around the corner.  I am not saying you should stay in an unhappy marriage or accept living a life of defeat.  What I am saying is that I know a lot of women who wish they would have taken a different path in life and have kind of given up, and given in to accepting the mundane.  Don't let yourself become one of them.
Reap The Rewards of Knowing Yourself and Experiencing a Life Well Lived

It is when we feel most alive and connected with our own desires and excitement about life that we can add to the lives of those around us.  Focus in on yourself by using the 3 tips above to reap the rewards of a life well lived.

You will never lose yourself, or your passion for life, if you refuse to sell your desires short.  Our desires are the fuel that we need to drive us to living our best life.  Live your life each day by focusing in on what creates a life worth living for you, and your spouse and your kids will only reap the benefits of your rewards.

Won't Back Down with Maggie Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis - Why You Don't Want to Miss This Movie [Movie Review]

If You See One Movie This Year, Make It Won't Back Down and Then Take Action to Make a Difference
If You See One Movie This Year, Make It Won't Back Down and Then Take Action to Make a Difference

I was lucky enough to be invited to a private screening of Won't Back Down   by Twentieth Century Fox, Walden Media and StudentsFirst this week and the only thing that was a disappointment to me, was that I forgot to bring my tissues.  Listen when I warn you that you will cry like a baby when you see Won't Back Down and be prepared.  Even my 15 year old daughter was moved to tears and yet you will also be moved to action, just as we both were.
